About Camera Lenses

Everyone loves a good picture. Some of us take pictures as a hobby, some to remember moments and some of us do it as a profession. The quality of the picture however, is greatly dependent on the camera lens. There are many types of camera lenses available. When shopping for one, you must choose a lens that suits your budget and needs.

A camera lens is extremely important and can be quite pricy. Therefore, when purchasing a lens get the best value for money. If you have the choice to get one good lens or two lenses with of inferior quality, purchase the expensive lens. This is because you will be able to take higher quality pictures with this lens. You can always purchase another lens once you have saved enough money. The important thing is to start off with the best camera lens you can afford.

Camera lenses can be divided into three main categories. Standard, telephoto and, wide angle lenses. For a 35mm camera a 50mm lens is regarded as the standard lens. A camera lens that has a longer focal length is regarded as a telephoto lens while a lens with a shorter focal length is regarded as a wide angle lens. If you are purchasing your first camera lens, you should buy a standard lens.

Telephoto camera lenses are perfect for long distance pictures. An example of this would be if you are taking a picture of a bird perched high up in a nest. You can zoom right in and focus on the bird without compromising on quality. The bird will be the focal point and you will be able to take a close up picture from far away. Wide angle lenses are the opposite of telephoto lenses. Many landscape photographers prefer wide angle lenses as they can capture a close object while letting the background fade.

If you already have a standard lens and you want to buy another lens, figure out what lens suits you better. Camera lenses are expensive and you should take adequate care of your lenses. Make sure that your lens is always dry. Take extra care when taking photographs around areas like lakes and ponds. Many professionals suggest the use of a filter. This will prevent the lens from scratching and is cheaper to replace than the actual lens. When you are not using your camera lens make sure the lens cap is fitted on it securely!
